TRAVELING COSTS IN TURKEY
Turkey is not an expensive country. If you know where to go, where to buy and eat, you can make your trip cheaper than you expect. If you have a friend or if you have good contacts in Turkey, you can get a lot of benefits and can reduce your costs considerably. Do not hesitate to ask questions to the companies or individuals you meet. Turks love to help foreigners.
If you are low on budget, you can travel with as little as 20 US$ per day (bus, pension, one restaurant meal).
20 US$ to 50 US $ per day would bring you to travel in better busses, one or two star hotels with private bathrooms, eating in average restaurants.
50 US$ to 75 US$ per day means three or four star hotels, some airflights and full restaurant meals.
100 US$ and more per day and you are on the luxury status.
Most expensive city is Istanbul. Smaller cities and towns and the regions further away from tourist destinations are cheapest.
Some important costs are:
Local Newspaper: 40c.
Bus ticket for 100 km: 4 US$. and for 600 km: 13 US$.
Train ticket for 100 km: 2.5 US$.
Gasoline price per liter: 80c
Single or double room in pensions: 8US$ to 18 US$.
Single or double room in one to two star hotels: 15US$ to 30 US$.
Simple restaurant : 6 US$
Beer from a shop: 1 US$
Taxi costs differ from city to city, in small cities price per distance rises. There is a meter in the taxis that measure the length of travel. Waiting in the blocked traffic is not measured.
